Krysantemia: Lay down forever

Krysanthemum?

I don’t know what Krysantemia means, but it is an Italian band that has released a self-financed album in a thrash/death combination where the slightly more evil vocals than ordinary thrash adds the death reference. I’ve had it on my desk for a while and trying to get a grip on it, trying to decide if I like it or not. At first when I listened to it, I felt nothing, zilch, zero. But after a second spin I got a bit more into it. The third spin around, my brain was starting to produce a conclusion. I don’t know why it took so long to get a grip on it? Maybe I’m getting too old for this shit, and should retire and start listening to Barry Manilow and Kenny Rogers? Or is it that it lacks something else? Like groove for starters?

The music itself is like some sort of blend between Lamb of God and Pantera maybe, but as mentioned earlier, the vocals are a bit more “deathy”. He almost gets some kind of “van Drunen” action going for him at times. The drummer sends out a feeling that his favorite inspiration is Chris Adler and the guitars shreds along happily with the bass player tagging along (although he shows some spirit from time to time). Here and there you hear these things you’ve heard before. The production is OK, but not top notch, it’s a bit harsh overall, maybe some polishing could have made it come across better? Nothing really wrong with it, but if you guys want to get out more, you should concentrate more on the songwriting. This kind of metal require more groove to become golden.

5/10 Medium mix of medium music with medium song writing.
